Great Artist Style meme

My attempt at drawing Zero in the style of great manga-ka. I learned a lot from this exercise, such as shojo is freaking scary and Saiyuki is freaking ugly. Just kidding, I already knew Saiyuki was ugly, I still have a fondness for the series none the less.

I tried really hard to emulate the unique style of each artist while still making sure Zero looked like Zero. It really forced me to consider what about her makes her her, the way her bangs fall, the shape of her eyes. It's hard finding reference for a series and figuring how the artist draws eyes and then translating that for your own character.

I recently read Bleach again for the first time in a while, and I realize my Bleach style isn't very close to Bleach style at all. Oh well. It really makes a difference actually reading the manga instead of just looking up images on google. I guess that was one thing I failed at in this meme, I could have very easily waited and checked out some volumes from the local library for reference but I didn't.

I admit I completely gave up on Saiyuki. Just...no.

Vampire knight looks freakin freaky, but I have to admit I had fun on that one. XD

Of course I did all of this with pencil, no way I was going to attempt it with a tablet. I think I understand generic anime faces better now, which is a step away from my squashed chibi style face and still a long ways away from unique American cartoon character style faces. It was fun exploring the different ways to do hair, but now that I step back and look at it it all looks pretty much the same. Oh well.

I dont know if this counts as fanart. If I cant get two more done this week then this will be one of them. Tee Hee. Also, I should put this in Scraps, I might move it later. Or not depending.
